These were produced by Albatros in 1917 to perform the same duties as the AEG J.I and J.II and were similarly armed. The major production J.I version was also similarly powered to the AEG and carried armour plating to protect the crew from ground fire. The less successful J.II, powered by a 164kW Benz Bz.IVa, had extra armour plating to protect the engine and so lost the pointed nose and propeller spinner of the former.
