The AMX multi-role combat aircraft is the product of collaboration between the Italian companies Aeritalia and Aermacchi and the Brazilian EMBRAER concern, and is the result of a joint requirement formulated by both countries for a new lightweight tactical fighter-
bomber. The first prototype AMX flew in May 1984. This agile light attack aircraft entered service with the Italian Air Force in 1990, and deliveries to the Brazilian Air Force began a year later. It is capable of reconnaissance, close air support and interdiction missions.
