Known in the West under the NATO reporting name Coach, the IL-12 twin-engined transport aircraft first flew in 1944. It entered service with the Soviet Air Force as a troop/paratroop or freight transport and for glider towing. It also went into commercial service with Aeroflot, CSA of Czechoslovakia and LOT of Poland.
