weight reduction; maximum speed increased to 992km/h at cost of maximum
IAS of only 700km/h at low altitude instead of originally required M0.9; deliveries began
1954; nine Tu-16 took part in May Day 1954 flypast over Moscow, 54 in Aviation Day flypast 1955;
approximately 2,000 produced in many versions; manufacture ended late 1950s.
