These were used in Alaska in the late 1920s and many used Lake Hood Seaplane Base, then only Lake Spenard, in Anchorage, Alaska. I have a photo of one being re-fueled on the lake that is going on display at Piper's Bar and Lounge at Lake Hood.

The N-1B flew in 1927, which was the precursor to the N-2B. Hopelessly under powered with a 220 h.p Wright J-5 pusher only six were produced before moving on to the N-2B Neptune in 1928. About 40 in total were produced the first sixteen of which had an open cockpit before the adoption of an enclosed cockpit. I think that the photo on this page is of the later N-2C which featured a 450 h.p Pratt & Whitney pusher.

Power plant 1 x 300 h.p Wright J-6 pusher

Veey little info out there on these planes. The Ireland Aircraft Inc. company produced flying boats from 1919 to 1938 based on their original N-1B flying boat.
