This plane was out of date by the time it entered service. As noted, five were diverted out of the French Aeronavale order and entered service with the R.A.F. where they were named Cleveland. The R.A.F. could find no use for them, which says something at that stage in the war, and as a result they ended up as instructional airframes.

My Dad, Lt E. W. Clexton, USN, an aero grad from MIT in 1931 was on the design team in BuAer for this plane and I have the metal model he was given. He was also on the design team for the Curtis SB2C Helldiver.

I FLEW MANY HOPS IN THE BACK SEAT OF THIS PLANE. THEY WERE USED AT NAS MIAMI, FLA. AS NAVIGATION FLIGHTS FROM MASTERS FIELD TO THE BAHAMAS. WE FLEW FROM MIAMI TO THE BAHAMAS THEN TO WEST PALM BEACH AND TO MIAMI. THE FAMED BERMUDA TRIANGLE. IT WAS A COMFORTABLE PLANE AND AS A YOUNG SAILOR I GOT A LOT OF STICK TIME WHILE THE ENSIGNS NAVIGATED. THOSE WERE FUN DAYS.
