I flyed on this plane in February 1969 between Moskwa and Irkoutsk where I was a teacher in the Pedagogical Institut of Foreign Languages. Instead of flying from Moskwa to Novossibirsk and in a second time from Novossibirsk to Irkoutsk it was a direct and quicker journey in a very impressive plane

Only 30 tu114 built?! That's anything but profitable by western standards! Russian aircraft industry was also about quantity! The ability to outproduce the U.S.,only 30 means this is a rare bird.

I saw one of these beasts at Andrews Air Force Base around 1962, when it brought the Soviet Premier to Washington for a visit. Those 32 propeller blades were impressive!

Do any of these incredible machines still exist? With their outstanding speed (jet class) and range, they should be welcome in an era of high fuel prices. It is a beautiful airplane.

This craft lives on for those with the latest 3 versions of MS Flight Simulator. The freeware add-on from Samdim Design even provides English translation of the instrument panel. In light og the trying economic times, and the overall condition of the airline industry, many more carriers are looking to the newest generation of turboprops to cut costs. The Tu-114 would have fit right in, and there just might yet be a market for what would have to be called the TU-214 if this type were produced anew with modern avionics and systems. The TU-114 stands as one of the most remarkable achievements of the old USSR.

One of the most outstanding and advanced airliners of its time! Well in in advance of anything the West had to to present in what regards payload, and speed/operational costs ratio. Unfairly forgotten due to its limited production and export performance.
