Can anyone out there explain why the A-12/SR-71 series, and their "Wylie Cuyote" would-be nemesis, the MiG-25 were the ONLY(!!!) mach 3+ types not needing a "droop-snoot" nose and retractable visor? The ones on the Concorde, L-2000, and B-70 were bad enough. That on the Sukhoi T-4 was absolutely ridiculous. Would hate to be the guy trying to land that thing in any emergency where a systems failure made it impossible to lower the "snoot"!

paul - No techical problems in reality. It was all politics, with Tupolev swindling the government into taking his 'updated Tu-22' instead. Even in limited quanities, the T-4 should have seen some service. It was too good of an aircraft to pass up.

Amazing aircraft from Sukhoi. Would have been a world beater if there were really no technical problems.

I would like say that:
1) Russian aerospace technology was incredible, very good
2) this site is fantastic, very good job

My best regards,
mt

This thing reminds me of an XB-70 built out of cardboard. I like it.
