Hi I am in the process of putting a display together for next year on "Firsts of Aviation" which will include the story of The Vickers Vernon being used by the RAF for the first time as a troop transport.
I would be interested in looking at the image you talk about, do you have any more from when your father served the RAF in India?

How interesting. I have the exact same photograph glued into my husband's grandad's photo album. He was at the time F.O. Cyril N Ellen DFC. The photo in my album is quite faded but I know he was in 45 Sqdn between 1921-1923 and doing the Cairo to Baghdad mail run.

My father served in the RAF in India, 1922 to 1927, based in Karachi,Drigh Road Airfield. I have an aerial photo of a Vickers Vernon in its role as an Air Ambulance operating in NW India.

Why was the name Vernon used as well as my own name I am interested in the Vernon family of Sudbury Hall in Derbyshire.

Mt grandfather was a surveyor in India in 1922 and went on a survey over EYGPT. I have photos taken by him from one plane looking down at another Vernon flying over the Giza pyramids. Inteseting to ee what the pyramids looked like before all the mastabas etc were excavated around them.
