The "Nile" was a commercial airliner version powered by three Bristol Jupiter air-cooled radial engines. It was intended for for use on Sir Alan Cobham's Cape-to-Cairo air service. When Cobham's air line was taken over by Imperial Airways there was no longer any need for the Nile, so the prototype was never completed. Only a single example of the RAF's Rolls-Royce Kestrel-powered version, known as the "Sydney", was completed. After several years of experimental testing during the early 1930s it was scrapped without any more ever being built.
