Based around the Dragon Rapide and featuring room for two pilots side by side the one and only Dolphin was rolled out in August 1936. It initially featured a trousered undercarriage, ala the Dragon Rapide, but by the time Geoffrey DeHavilland made the inaugeral flight in September 1936 a fully retractable undercarriage had been fitted. The plane was structurally too heavy and what with the company's committments to the Albatross and the ongoing production of the Dragon Rapide the one and only Dolphin was scrapped in December of that year.
