Developed in parallel with the R.VI and R.VII there were three built.

It is hard to believe that in a short 12 years after the Wright Bros. flight that such advances were made.

According to the book,The First war Planes, by William e Barret 1964, the R5 was brought down over Talmas on 8/10/1918 by anti aircraft fire and was completely destroyed on crash landing by one of it's bombs.
