The performances of this fighter where about the same of all the other prototypes of the Italian “Serie 0” class: in example it was 4 m.p.h. faster than the F.I.A.T. G. 50, but 12 m.p.h. slower than the Macchi M.C. 200. The problems that this aircraft showed were – in a confront with the others - above all structural. But credit must be given also to the rumours, that claimed the summit of the Regia Aeronautica and the Italian political leaders of that years wanted not to break the monopoly of F.I.A.T. and Macchi in the supplying of fighters. Some of our students of aviation history justify for this reason the elimination of fighters as the Caproni-Vizzola F.5 and the Reggiane 2000 after the trials.

Two prototypes were constructed. The first illustrated had a fixed wheel undercarriage, the second was built as a float plane with a fixed central float with two outriggers. During early trials one wing dipped into the water taking the rest of the plane with it. As the performance was not as good as the competing Maachi C.200 or Fiat G.50 (it must have been bad!) all further development was abandoned.

velivolo da caccia, monoplano ad ala bassa, monomotore, monoposto a struttura mista. Fusoliera in tubi di acciaio al cromo-molibdeno, saldati, con rivestimento in lamierino di lega leggera. Ala con struttura in legno, monolongherone con solette in spruce, centinatura e copertura in compensato: superfici mobili ricoperte in tela; ipersostentatori ad apertura ventrale. Carrello retrattile per rotazione verso l'indietro, con parziale scomparsa in apposito alloggiamento carenato (impianto di retrazione ed ammortizzatori della Magnaghi): l'azionamento del carrello avviene con pompa idraulica, oppure, a mano, mediante la pompa supplementare di emergenza (egualmente della Magnaghi). Ruotino di coda, retrattile, a scomparsa totale. Piani di ceda con struttura in tubi di acciaio, saldati, ricoperti in tela ed irrigiditi da tiranti; superfici mobili (stessa struttura) compensate aerodinamicamente. Posto di pilotaggio ricoperto da cappottina in plexiglas, apribile con movimento di scorrimento verso il retro; il seggiolino del pilota, corazzato, fa da pilone di protezione in caso di ribaltamento.Strumentazione, quella standard per i caccia del Concorso Ministeriale. Serbatoio per il carburante, realizzato in lega leggera, con lamierino piegato e chiodato, semapizzato esternamente; posizione baricentrica, tra l'abitacolo del pilota e la paratia tagliafiamma del motore. Motore stellare Fiat A74 RC. 38, raffreddato ad aria, da 840 HP a 3.800 m azionante un'elica tripala metallica, a passo variabile in volo. Armamento su due mitragliatrici Breda-SAFAT MC.12,7 da 12,7 mm, con tiro sincronizzato attraverso il disco dell'elica, dotate di 310 colpi per arma.
