Hi- wonderful site.I'm grateful for the information. You mention that this model Kellett(KD-1A) was the pattern used by the Japanese firm Kayaba to develop their Ka-1.Were both of these machines engine power-up of rotor?Film of the Kayaba showed no evidence of jump take off.Could the Kellett do the Japanese versions hover trick? I've never heard of an auto-gyro having that performance.

Hello,
I am asking for permission to use the drawing of the autogiro in our newspaper to accompany a story. Please contact me and let me know.
Thanks,
Mark

Anyone know what Kellett Aircraft stock certificates are worth?

John Tuton, e-mail, 20.10.2014 20:11

My uncle, John Paul Jones (recently deceased) worked in the Engineering Department at Kellett in the late 30's before WWII after studying for a year at Princeton. I have his ID badge with his photo and would be very appreciative of any information about the company during those years as well as suggestions for where I might donate the badge.

Russ Strine, e-mail, 22.02.2012 02:03

The original Kellett KD1/KD1-A s/n101 NC14742 survives as a part of the Mid Atlantic Air Museum collection. It can be seen in photos on this web site.
It is the original aircraft to carry air mail from a post office roof- that being the Chicago post office. The aircraft carried the TWA logo and colors for the demonstration. It later served as a back up aircraft for the KD1-B and flew in Eastern Airlines colors flying the mail from the Philadelphia post office to Camden airport.

Alden DuPont, e-mail, 06.01.2011 20:00

My father Mark DuPont was shop superintendent at Kellett for many years and would fly with John Miller, Bill McCormick and other pilots To Wright Patterson AFB for demonstrations. He later supervised the first Helicopter development for Frank Paisacki in a garage in Roxboro, PA. Piasecki Helicopter was later bought by Boeing Aircraft.

This is the best Kellett page ever. This is the giro in the news reel taking off of the Post Office roof across the street from 30th Street Station, right ?

Luis M. Moreno, e-mail, 20.07.2007 19:50

Kellett KD-1A. Perhaps the best autogiro and the more graceful.
Wellcome.
saludos.
