Southwind Helicopters on barnstormers has support and parts. Contact them through barnstormers. I got great support and some good parts from them...they have become a NEW distributor for the 500, they seem to be the "go to guys" if you need parts and support to get your 500 flying. Great shop facilities too. When I was there they had a 500 flying and doing all the manuvers one would expect, and the guy who owned the 500 was very happy with thier help.

Hello all; I have read several times to comply with the mandatory service bulletins (A.D.'s) sent by Revolution to owners of their helicopter to make it safer, but I haven't seen the actual bulletins posted: Can someone post a list of all of the reccomended upgrades to the Mini-500, so I can inspect a prospective purchase to make sure that the upgrades have been completed and installed? I have read from several postings on other sites from Dennis Fetters about 4 mandatory upgrades, but then he doesn't go on to say what they are. Thanks.

You are dead wrong as well, there are many guy's out there, with stock M-500B's, that read and obeyed the factory AD's and SB's, that are now successfully flying their Mini's, with the 582 powerplant.

Scott K, you are dead wrong !! Contact Southwind Helicopters, or look them up on Barnstormers. They fly stock Mini-500B's, with all and only the factory approved upgrades, 582 powered. NO HASSLES. All the BS you guy's are spewing, is due to your own stupidity in building, assembly, set-up, whatever you want to call it. Do you even own one? Yes, guy's killed themselves, due to RHCI making it TOO CHEAP! Guy's with too much money, and some with no brains, were buying them on a friday, assembling them on a saturday, and flying them on a sunday type thing. No heli experience, no proper inspection or tracking. I'm surprised not more people got killed.
10 years after all the negative publicity, there are a stack of guys out there, quitely flying and enjoying their Mini-500's. It's only loadmouths like you that keep on spreading misinformation.
The only problem is to be able to determine what the status is of the machines for sale out there. If you buy one without the factory mandated AD's or SB's, you are looking for trouble. In it's mandatory upgraded state, it's a winner. Buying one without upgrades, don't waste your time, you won't find the upgrades anywhere!!

Scott K... I do not think that you have the full details on Mini500. Frame issues also related to the experience of the person that built it. Engine failures down to 'clever' builders who tried fitting engines not suited to the spec, such as a heavy underpowered 4-stroke, or tuning the 2-stroke so that reliability was gone.
The changes made to reduce airframe issues were very successful and so was the aircraft... unfortunately, I believe, that Dennis Fetters told everyone about the 2-seater Talon before it was ready and sales of Mini500 dropped, causing the business to fail due to lack of cash flow. The main assets of the company went to China, along with the main test pilot... but never reapeared.
Talon 2-seater went South, perhaps to Puerto Rico... and the Zeus looked very similar?
I have copies of all crash info, Air Worthiness Directives, and all Modification details for Mini500... which was renamed by my involvement in getting the kits into Europe.
Have you seen these multi-million dollar operations that design, develop, and build certified helicopters... and then the first customer helicopters have failures... it happens all the time.

These were the WORST kit heli's made with MANY fatalities due to both pilot error but MOSTLY engine failure and premature structural fatigue. The NTSB only files reports of CRASHES not ones the have the common issues unsafe to fly (FAA Air Directives)noted by 98% of all owners, distributors and the FAA. They range from, cracked rotor heads, cracked linkage, cracked transmision mounts, cracked engine mounts, too soft of metal on gears worn down and chipped, correlater linkage ruptures, transmission falure, clutch failures. Failure to comply with the FAA AD at the factory, which forced the FAA to close them down forever in 1999. Not to mention ZERO spare parts in 9 years. Everything on them must be custom made and getting them certified on most of Earth is next to nothing without the 75 ADs required in the US alone. In Canada and the EU they have a complete ban on the kits. If you need the FACTS on this death cage, just look them up on Wikipedia just to start. Not a good word to be found on them ANYWHERE but a couple of nuts here, who don't care about thier lives much.

I have a Mini 500 Talon with a rotax 670 150hp dialed down to 105 with 15hp reserve. It is a rocket ship great to fly, the beginner control touch is great. The best small helicopter around. Its to bad they got a bad name. And by the way if you read the NTSB reports most crashes are attributed to bad maint. and pilot error!!!! Check out the R22's crash records NOW THATS ALOT OF BODIES AND SMOKIN HOLES>

This chopper is the one bad example of what not to look for!! The company had dozens of law suits and under FAA reveiw for bad workmanship, poor design and no rectifying of the issues. In 1999 the owner died of a crash in this very model on take off. The company was gone in Nov.'99. It was a nice idea but poorly executed and next to impossible to unsure now with their bad track record, not mention certiying them is even harder too. If you ever see one flying run away fast!!!

I used to work there.I could tell you some stories. The place went out of business but a fellow in town bought all the goods at the auction and is trying to get it up and going again. Watch out for those windshield t's cracking and the tail rotor blades flying off they had a bad rivet problem. They had a recall on them.

When I saw the advertising campaign for this copter I was very entusiastic, and later was able to see and sit inside one and it was INSTANT LOVE!!!. I know that this model was at the time the only one flying like the real thing (a former critic was amazed while flying it at Oshkosh). The problem is that there were many accidents. When I tried to do an overview of the problems, it seemed that over-confidence was an important issue: comercial airline and professional flyers would crash more than amateurs. If I´m wrong, I would like your opinion. But if you can´t buy a 500MD this is the best next think. Imagine someone improving the unit to a powerfull, composite materials, advanced avionics... it would a dream machine for surveillance, private fast transport, etc.. Thank´s!

No, they are not being made any more. I would not pursue the idea of one of these unless you own your own machine shop and have years to build. I have lucked out with mine having access to both. The original engine was bad news too, best to find another option.

This aircraft is no longer produced. There are some around...some flying and alot just taking up garage space due to the factory's lack of development prior to marketing. I own two of these birds...I would suggest doing alot of research and get all the experienced help you can find if you decide to own/fly one of the Mini 500's. The Ultra light Mosquito XE is the future to economical heli flight. Hugh
