Mustvee was first mentioned in 1493. In 1869 Mustvee was a parish, in 1921
alev (a rural town) and in 1938 a town. The Mustvee Local History Museum,
seat at 24, Narva mnt., provides an idea of the history of the area and the
settlements of Russian Old Believers, a prior arrangement required. Heino
Lubja’s Museum of Scales at 42 Tartu mnt. is open at weekends and by
arrangement with the owner. Mustvee has four churches: Apostle Nicholas’s
Orthodox Church (1864), Baptist (1872), Lutheran (1880) and Old Believers’
Church (1927 –1930 ). A Neptune’s statue and the monument Mourning
Virgin dedicated to the soldiers killed in the Second World War are the decorative
sculptures of the town. The Estonian first president Konstantin Päts was
present here when the small bridge of Mustvee was opened.
