The Vickers Monoplane No 2 was sold to Dr Douglas Mawson for use on his 1912 Australian Antarctic Expedition, but crashed on a trial flight in October 1911. However, waste not nor want not the remains were taken as a tractor sled. The lubricating oil froze, the engine seized but the tubular steel frame held up well.
