The first prototype flew on December 23, 1974. The first modified B-1B flew on March 23, 1983. Entered
service in 1986, by 1988 a total of 100 B-1B were built.

Worked at Plant 42 & EAFB Flight Test, 1973-77, in Configuration Management. Saw A /V #1 "jump the fence" for her maiden flight, followed 3 test vehicles to EAFB for 3 years. I wrote maintenance procedures, produced the daily maintenance schedules. Great job, terrific aircraft: Pres. Carter cancelled the original contract, 1977. Massive lay-off! "Those were the days, my friend, we thought they'd never end....."

I was an inspector on the B-1B. As such I got to view all phases of production and testing. This is in my opinion the most esthetically appealing bomber sircraft every built. And even more, it will go like a bat out of hell, carry a plethora of weapons types and get home in one piece. I love it.
My husband worked for Rockwell, in Columbus, Ohio in 1986 and 1987 on the B-1B. Does anyone know where we can find his employment records for this time. He needs to prove that he worked for the company during that time. Thank you
