Founded 1965 as a subsidiary of Mitsubishi of Japan to assemble the MU-2 turboprop transport, followed by the basically similar Solitaire and Marquise with different Garrett TPE331 engines and variations in fuel capacity. Subsequently assembled and marketed Mitsubishi Diamond business jets, but in December 1985 the Diamond II was acquired by the Beech Aircraft Corporation, becoming the Model 400 Beechjet, and in 1986 all U.S. general aviation work by MAI ended.
