The Avro Ava was designed to fulfill an RAF requirement for a large long-range bomber, reconnaissance and torpedo-dropping aircraft for coastal defense. Note the 21-inch torpedo mounted under the aircraft in the photo. The Ava was submitted in competition with the Blackburn Cubaroo. In the end, the RAF decided to drop the requirement for an aircraft of this category, and neither aircraft was accepted.
