This development from the Bristol Fighter was used by Charles Kingsford Smith and Charles Ulm in their record-breaking 1927 flight around Australia. They took 10 days, smashing the old 22 day record, but their first plane only lasted 3 hours and 120km before engine trouble forced it down. They caught the train back to Sydney and set off in their second aircraft.
