Ilyushin IL-96

The Ilyushin IL-96 is a shortened, long-range, and advanced technology development of Russia's first widebody airliner, the Ilyushin IL-86. It features supercritical wings fitted with winglets, a glass cockpit, and a fly-by-wire control system. It was first flown in 1988 and certificated in 1992. The IL-96-300 aircraft equipped with modern Russian made avionics which includes six multifunctional color-LCD displays, electro remote management system, inertial navigation system, collision air avoidance system (including mode S) and satellite navigation equipment, VHF communication with grid of 8,33/25 kHz frequencies, and equipment permitting executes flights in RVSM conditions. It allows operating the airplane with two crew members. The avionics correspond to modern requirements on international routes in Europe and North America (RNP-1) and allows to navigate and land under ICAO CAT IIIA conditions. The Il-96 comes in three main variants: the IL-96-300, IL-96M/T and IL-96-400.

Louis Didier E.Toussaint, the reason that there are fewer orders for the IL96/86 and western wide bodies is that they are just not as good. That is why the likes of Aeroflot now use western jets. A Russian airliner, even a modern one, just does not cut it when compared with the likes of B777 or A330 in every part of it's performance.

I have flown in IL 96 between moscow and delhi.Very stable in clouds and bad weather and was fascinated by the internal lift operating between upper and lower deck.the a/c needs better marketing and resolving all issues as indicated in my earlier comments.

i have a great fascination for russian a/c worked on some of them while in the Indian Navy.i feel marketing strategy and reliability needs to be improved for better sales.Engine fuel consumption,reduction in noise levels and better environment management needs to be achieved by a central agency in russia.Availability of break down spares at lower costs also availability and upgradation of technical mannuals needs to be better stream lined.
Safety record needs improvement
gse needs to be standarised to suit different aircraft and commonality of components between equipment and components needs to be better indicated to make customers more aware.
